I think anyone is hard pressed to find a better theme than a dinosaur nursery. There are so many options when it comes to decorating with dinosaurs.
In picking a theme, my first biggest lesson was if you are going to spend the time and money, make sure it will last years. You have time during pregnancy to really make a beautiful place for baby. It is much harder to find that time again when you have a baby or even a toddler. By picking a dinosaur theme, you can easily transition to a toddler room. I have yet to meet a toddler who doesn’t love dinosaurs.

Make the nursery last longer by using decor that can turn into keepsakes. I really wished I had focused more on keepsakes as decoration. It is such a great way to remember all of those sweet moments in your nursery with your baby. They grow up seriously way too fast. There are so many ways to include a dinosaur theme with adorable keepsakes, which I will cover later.
As a side note, be sure to use all of your decorations at your baby shower to save money and to let everyone know your theme ahead of time so you can get dinosaur-themed items as gifts.
How do you accomplish all of this with your dinosaur nursery? Here you will find fun options and advice on dinosaur nursery bedding and decor to create a nursery that you will love.
Dinosaur Nursery Decor
The decoration is what will really set your theme. You can even do all bedding in a solid color but still have a theme if you do your decor correctly. Another way to ensure you are spending money well is to make sure most of your decor has a second purpose. Here are my favorite ideas on dinosaur nursery decor.
Spend your money on decor that will be keepsakes.
My favorite way to decorate is by creating keepsakes. Years from now, you will be so glad you have ways of remembering all of those special times with your precious baby.

Turn those feet into dino tracks
An absolute must no matter the theme is baby footprints. Nothing is cuter and I absolutely love the idea of dino tracks by your babysaurus. This canvas is a full kit so you could do them right when you get home from the hospital.
Turn the going home outfit into a lovey.
Before your baby is born. Buy a dinosaur onesie as their going home outfit. After you get plenty of adorable photos in it send it off to an Etsy shop to get it made into a stuffed animal. Most common is a bear onesie keepsake but some shops also do a dinosaur one.
Take photos each month in the theme and turn it into a my first year photo collage
When you take all of those photos each month starting with newborn, add your theme to the months such as these cute dino ties or a dinosaur onesie each month. Your other option is to get a cute little dinosaur chair or a dinosaur stuffed animal and take photos with it each month. Each month print one and add it to a my first year frame.
A Dinosaur Blanket with Baby’s Name
Other awesome keepsakes that will add to your dinosaur nursery theme include a dinosaur baby blanket. I really like the idea of adding baby’s name since that turns the blanket from just any dinosaur blanket into a keepsake.
A Dinosaur Growth Chart
While it might be awhile before your baby is walking, buy a cute dinosaur growth chart because it makes great decor and then you won’t forget to start tracking their height starting at their first birthday.
Decorate with Toddler Dinosaur Items to Spend More WISELY
I was so excited to decorate my nursery that I bought a LOT. My mistake was buying only for baby. The baby phase goes by fast. You definitely need baby items but consider toys that your baby could still use when they turn 1. Not only will they add a lot of cuteness to the room but they will have a second purpose very soon.

Add dinosaurs to the play storage
You could do a dinosaur toy chest or cube storage with the bins dinosaur-themed. I am a big fan of cubicles because you can place dinosaur-themed toys or books on display in the cubicles without bins.
A Dinosaur rocker
A dinosaur-themed small table, chairs and stool
Whether it’s for snack time, arts and crafts or just a place to play with dinosaurs, every toddler needs their own tiny table. Before it’s in full use, it is nice piece of decor. You can also do just a solid color table in chairs in your color scheme as decor.
Another must-have toddler item is a stool. Buy one now in a dinosaur theme as decor. I promise it will get lots of use from just wanting to climb it, to using it to look out windows and then eventually to potty train.
A really comfy dinosaur chair or bean bag.
Toddlers love things their size and nothing beats their very own chair. You can start using it from day one by taking monthly pictures in it. The chair will provide a great size comparison. Once they do start to use it, it will encourage your little one to read.
Another fun item that will be used, while also adding a nice pop of color, is a bean bag in dinosaur form. My toddler loves these types of bean bags. They are fun to hug, lay on tummy-down or just tumble across.
Get Baby items and Toys in your Dinosaur theme
Getting small items that you can place on display or will be used in the nursery in your theme can just help to tie your theme together. Here are my favorite items to get in a nursery theme.
- Squirting Dinosaur Bath Toys by Neliblu
- Infant Pacifier Baby Dino by Wubbanub
- Dinosaur Chunky Puzzle by Melissa and Doug
- Dino Baby Lovey Blanket by Mary Meyer
- Toy Dinosaurs by 3 Bees and Me
- Gund Baby Ugg Dinosaur Baby Stuffed Animal by Gund
Toys for Baby
In a matter of months, your little baby will begin to have fun with toys in the tub. The traditional yellow duck now comes in so many different animals including dinosaurs. You could also leave some on display on a shelf, on a dresser or in a basket with all the bath items. I would get some along with a dinosaur baby towel.
Another awesome way to include your theme in baby items is to get a Wubbanub pacifier with a dinosaur. The dinosaur attached to the pacifier has a purpose which is to act as a lovey. Another popular lovey is a blanket/stuffed animal mix. You can even get one with baby’s name.
Try always nursing with the blanket lovey. The baby will associate it with you, milk and comfort. Most babies also love to hold something while they nurse. You will start to see this happen as baby gets older. If you don’t have anything for baby to hold, then they will hold your boob, hair or shirt. Avoid that with a lovey, which will help create a good sleeping environment for baby. However, don’t leave it in the crib until they are old enough.
Toys for Toddler
Here are my favorite first toddler toys: a classic stuffed animal, toys that zoom and a puzzle. These dinosaurs on wheels for sure zoom. They are so much fun. You pull them forward and then let go and watch them race off. Your toddler will watch with big eyes. Put them on a dresser, in a cube in a cubicle organizer or in a toy basket.
A wooden puzzle is really good for concentration and spatial memory. My favorite brand of puzzles and actually just toddler toys is Melissa and Doug. In case you haven’t heard of them, they are a must know brand for kids’ toys.
Use Dinosaur Books as Artwork
My absolute favorite (and my toddler’s favorite) is the Jane Yolen Series, How Do Dinosaurs _____? Jane Yolen has written so many children books you are sure to come across her in any children’s section of any library.
Another popular author of toddler books is Sandra Boynton who has two awesome books called Dinos to Go and Dinosaur Dance. Other fun books that my toddler loves which also have cute covers are Dinosaur Roar and Dinosaur Stomp.
Dino Tails is a very colorful fabric book that baby can chew making it the perfect first book.

- Dinosaur Roar! by Henrietta Stickland
- Dinosaur Dance by Sandra Boynton
- Dino Tails by Lohome
- Dinosaur Stomp! by Paul Stickland

Use Dinosaur-Themed Decals in addition to picture frames.
Decals have become very popular and for good reason. They are an awesome way to dress up walls and add so much color and cuteness to a room. I like to use decals to accentuate the theme. They are good to add your baby’s name or first name initial. There are even cute ones that have sweet sayings.
Just remember to pick ones that you will like for more than just for baby. With all of the cute dinosaur-themed decals available, achieving this is not difficult.

Dinosaur Nursery Bedding
Last but not least is to choose your dinosaur nursery bedding. At the very minimum, you will need a fitted crib sheet and a changing pad color. You could do just those in a dinosaur print or even just in a solid color that matches you other dinosaur accessories. Blues and greens are good choices.
A lot of bedding comes as crib sets. When looking at crib sets, pay attention to what pieces you are getting in the set and if any extra pieces are sold separately. For example, you might want to buy a crib set that doesn’t include a matching changing pad cover but that is sold separately.
Here are my three favorite sets:
- Trend Lab Dinosaur Roar Crib Bedding Set by Trend Lab
- Modern Dinosaur Baby Crib Bedding by Sweet Jojo Designs
- Roar Dinosaur Crib Bedding by Bedtime Originals
The Trend Lab set comes with a quilt, cotton sheet, skirt. You can add on or just buy a crib sheet, changing pad, plush blanket and a swaddle blanket. Depending on what items you want or don’t want this allows you to spend money wisely based on what makes sense for you. I love how the colors are bright and could easily go with many dinosaur accessories.
Sweet Jojo Designs is a beautiful modern set that comes in a 4 set and a 9 set. The nice part about this design is that you can buy literally everything in it. So, you can really make your whole nursery match very easily. You can get a lamp cover, artwork, laundry hamper, changing pad, decals and fabric bins all in the same pattern.
You can even buy the bedding set also in toddler, twin and double so if you really like it buy the bigger size now for when your baby needs a larger bed. This means you don’t need to update the theme and can instead keep all your accessories for years making your money well spent.
The Bedtime Originals set is in a beautiful blue. I love the blanket being a quilt which is so classic. You can also buy items separately, such as the crib sheet, and you can get extra items allowing you to have a more cohesive theme. The use of fabric designs such as stripes and chevrons allow you to use these patterns in artwork or other items in the room while still keeping on theme.
What will your dinosaur nursery look like?
As you begin to create that dinosaur nursery perfect for your style, remember to find ways to create keepsakes and have it easily transition from baby to toddler.
Be creative in how to add dinosaurs to baby and toddler items. A classic way is to find awesome books in your theme.
Lastly, tie it together with a dinosaur pattern or matching solid color fabric.
Once your nursery theme is complete, be sure to check out our post on how to set up your furniture for maximum organization and practical use. Trust me, you will want to know this or you might be re-arranging the first week home with baby.
Also, be sure to comment with a picture of your nursery, I can’t wait to see it!
